Canonbury

A stylish office retreat for a writer in Canonbury

This garden office in Canonbury was designed around the need for some additional family space.
With the arrival of a new born, the garden room formed a practical alternative to moving house or building an extension, creating more space and leaving the existing house untouched.
Being installed at the back garden of a lower ground flat, it required planning permission, which was granted by the local Islington Council.
The use of eco-friendly materials such as Western Red Cedar cladding and a sedum roof, contributed to the sustainability of the local environment, generating an oasis where to concentrate and escape from the busy everyday home routine.
A unique element of this bespoke office is represented by the cedar brise soleil, which designs a useful covered outdoor deck area, allowing to enjoy the garden space even more.
The details of this outdoor space have been planned carefully, including decorative features such as a corten steel trim for the hardwood deck, with a matching modern concrete bench for relaxing afternoon readings.
Here in this privately secluded working space, at the end of the garden, the owner and writer can find his inspiration. Thanks to the smart integral blinds, he knows his privacy and quiet will be guaranteed.
